Teresa Leger Fernandez Releases Third TV Ad of General Election, Highlighting Her Continued Fight for Accountability and Compensation on Behalf of the Victims of the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire

September 27, 2022

Today, Teresa Leger Fernandez’s campaign for Congress released its third ad of the general election - called “Homestead” - highlighting her continued fight to bring accountability and compensation on behalf of the victims of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.

“Since day one, Congresswoman Leger Fernandez has set out to deliver for the people of New Mexico. And when tragedy struck our district earlier this year, she fought to hold the federal government accountable, successfully securing an independent federal investigation into the Forest Service’s use of prescribed burns and a Presidential Disaster Declaration to unlock disaster aid. Teresa passed her Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act through the House twice in order to fully compensate New Mexicans for damage caused by the fire and is continuing to fight to get the legislation through the Senate, and also secured an increase in federal firefighter pay and cosponsored legislation to expand benefits for firefighters,” said campaign manager Kyra Ellis-Moore.

We are grateful to the Gomez family for sharing their story of loss and hope with New Mexico.

Transcript, “Homestead”:

Our family has worked and lived here since the 1800s.

The fire took so much.

The cattle, my workshop, the house.

It’s been tough, but we have hope, because of Teresa.

She cut through red tape to keep us going.

Teresa is fighting so we can get paid for what we lost.

Having someone that won’t let us down, that is powerful.

September 13, 2022

SANTA FE — Today, Teresa Leger Fernandez’s campaign for Congress released its second ad of the general election - called “Vida” - highlighting her leadership in Congress to keep clean water flowing across New Mexico.

“As a former acequia commissioner, Teresa knows firsthand that here in New Mexico, agua es vida. That’s why in Congress, Teresa has been focused on delivering federal funds and critical infrastructure to keep clean water flowing across New Mexico. From $123 million for the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply Project across Northwest New Mexico and the Navajo Nation, to $177 million for the Eastern New Mexico Water Pipeline across the Eastern side of our state - these projects will make sure that New Mexican families, farmers, ranchers, and small businesses have access to clean and affordable water for years to come,” said campaign manager Kyra Ellis-Moore.

Transcript, “Vida”:

From Eastern New Mexico to the North,

Agua es vida.

I’m Teresa Leger Fernandez,

As an acequia commissioner, I stopped a developer who tried to take our water.

In Congress,

I’m working to keep clean water flowing and affordable in all corners of our state.

Delivering dollars for critical projects,

Teresa Leger Fernandez Releases First TV Ad of 2022 Cycle, Highlighting Rural New Mexico Roots

August 30, 2022

SANTA FE — Today, Teresa Leger Fernandez’s campaign for Congress released the first ad of the general election - called “Vegas” - highlighting her deep roots in rural New Mexico.

“Growing up with seven siblings in Las Vegas, Teresa knows first-hand that small places can do big things. She went from Head Start to Congress, and is delivering for our communities by holding the federal government accountable for starting the largest wildfire in our history, fighting for our veterans, and securing funds to keep clean drinking water flowing throughout our state. But, having lost two brothers to addiction and a sister to cancer, she also knows the pain and struggles that so many of our families face. In Congress, she will always fight for all of our families here in New Mexico like they were her own,” said campaign manager Kyra Ellis-Moore.

Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez statement on SCOTUS Decision overturning Roe v. Wade

June 24, 2022

Today, in response to the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade and 50 years of precedent protecting the right to privacy, Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fernandez issued the following statement:

“In New Mexico, we trust women to make personal decisions about pregnancy with their familias, their faith, and their healthcare provider - without government interference. Today’s Supreme Court decision is wrong and dangerous. It is a rollback of freedom that takes away half a century of the rights of women across our nation. The consequences will jeopardize the health and safety of our families while unjustly criminalizing women and medical providers. I voted to pass laws to protect access, and will always be an advocate for a woman’s right to healthcare.”

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez Statement on Primary Election Results

June 7, 2022

Today Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez released a statement on New Mexico’s primary election results.

“Muchísimas gracias, New Mexico! I’ve taken the concerns and voices of New Mexicans to Congress and delivered for our state: from lowering health care costs, to delivering clean water, broadband, and infrastructure investments, to funding $74 million in local projects that will create jobs in communities across every corner of the district. There is so much more to do — especially ensuring New Mexicans impacted by the wildfires receive the financial compensation they deserve and need to rebuild, and defeating the VA’s recommendations to close our rural veterans health centers.

I will always listen to voters across my district, work hard to win their support in November, and fight for New Mexicans in Congress,” said Rep. Leger Fernandez.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, NM, Teresa spent her career working on behalf of New Mexico’s communities, helping build critical infrastructure and small businesses, promoting tribal sovereignty, and advancing voting rights. A daughter of rural New Mexico, in Congress she champions New Mexico’s children and families, education, small businesses, and tribal and rural communities - so that all New Mexicans can thrive.
